Low rates of taxes will boost the local auto industry, says CEO KIA Motors

while  analyzing the automobile industry of Pakistan, the  CEO of KIA Lucky Motors  said that if the government reduces the taxes on cars, there is a high probability of boosting the demand and production of vehicles in the local sector. The CEO of KIA Lucky Motors Pakistan,  Asif Rizvi  believes that the local automobile industry has a great potential of growth provided a low amount of taxes are imposed on the vehicles produced in the country. Currently, the economic activities in Pakistan have frozen due to uncertainty prevailing in the market on the back of such a massive depreciation of rupee against the US dollar. The demand for cars has dropped significantly, and hence the auto manufacturers are facing an immense challenge ahead of them. The sales have declined so drastically in the past few months, thus forcing the automakers to halt their production due to piled up inventories. Honda Atlas shut down their plant for more than ten days in the month of July...

The revived auto brand’s Borgward BX5 spotted in Pakistan

Recently, a  Borgward SUV BX5  has been spotted in Pakistan. A private company is reported to be importing these cars which were revived by a Chinese company, two years ago. See the pictures below: Borgward cars remained in production from  1890  to  1963  and since then the company struggled to compete in the marketplace due to which it was closed by the Germans. The financial structure of the company didn’t allow the automaker to continue with its operations. The company offered Isabella as its most popular model that was produced from  1954  until the end of the company’s operations. Borgward Isabella 1954 Borgward has re-entered the auto market after its revival by one of the largest Chinese auto manufacturers,  Beiqi Foton Motor , a subsidiary of Beijing Automotive Industry Corporation  (BAIC) . Foton Motor is the commercial vehicle division of BAIC that manufactures pickups, SUV’s, MPV’s, light and heavy trucks. The launch of a ...

Suzuki Mehran vs. United Bravo vs. Prince Pearl: A brief comparison!

The Automotive Development Policy (2016-21) has transformed the face of the Pakistani automobile industry beyond recognition. With the entrance of new players, Pakistan’s automotive scene has changed rapidly in the past two years. United and Prince are two new entrants in the market, and the people can’t help but compare their products with the existing cars, especially Suzuki Mehran. United Bravo was just another episode of the story when the Chinese manufacturer launched it last year in competition with three-decade-old Suzuki Mehran – which now has been discontinued by the company. It would certainly be unfair to compare the two compact hatchbacks because Bravo outperforms Mehran in almost every aspect. United Bravo has received a mixed response from the customers as some of them raised a question mark over its build quality. It’s somehow not understandable because Mehran also has not supreme build quality, to be honest.  The battle was right at its pe...

ITP imposes fines worth Rs.10.29 million in 2019

The  Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP)  has issued over  58,622  tickets on several traffic rules violations that sum up to a total fine amount of  Rs.10.29 million  during the current calendar year 2019. According to a senior official of ITP, the department had started a special campaign in May 2019 to impose fines on the traffic rules violators, which resulted in a collection of a huge amount of revenue. The most common traffic rules violations observed were led by not wearing a helmet while riding a motorbike and non-fastening of seat belts while driving. It was followed by the use of mobile phone while driving, over-speeding of vehicles, and frequent change of lanes while driving. It’s quite strange to see a majority of the public being fined on violating the safety rule, which should be a priority while driving, i.e., wearing a helmet and fastening seat belts. A total of 27,609 tickets were issued on not wearing a helmet, thus resulting in the c...

Government may introduce a new scheme for used car import

It is quite likely that the government might consider introducing a new scheme for the import of used vehicles under certain  Quantitative Restrictions (QR’s) . According to the sources, a meeting chaired by the  Adviser to Prime Minister  Dr. Abdul Hafeez Sheikh will be held today in which several issues related to the import of vehicles under personal baggage, transfer of residence and gift schemes for overseas Pakistanis will be discussed. The final decision regarding the introduction of a new regulatory framework will be made after the meeting. The import scheme under the above-mentioned conditions has been reported to be misused by the commercial importers. By using the passports of Overseas Pakistanis, used cars are imported by these importers, thus leading to an outflow of foreign exchange from the country. Surprisingly, only 5% of cars were imported by genuine Overseas Pakistanis under the allowed conditions. To curb this practice, the Commerce Division prescribed...
